15 Characteristics of a 21st Century Teacher
Edutopia (@edutopia) posted a fascinating article about Characteristics of a 21st century teacher. The article talked about how technology is changing the way we communicate, collaborate, learn and teach.
From my own experience, Technology has drastically increased in the education field since I was younger. More and more children have cell phones, Ipads, or the latest Fab technology. However, when I was in middle school and high school, the schools were mostly focused on limiting an banning the technology. But in today's century, we need to embrace technology and use the benefits it has. That is exactly what this article focused on.
Some of the ideas the the article focused on would benefit the students I work with. My students could blog about educational things or even emotional things. Students could vent their feelings in a safe place that can also be monitored. Students have the technology that allows students to explore globally without even leaving the classroom. Doing so will open many doors of opportunities to explore things far away more personally than just looking at some pictures. Students can become producers and do visual projects that allows students to learn hoe to use technology and produce items.
After reading the article, I realized that students need to "take the lead" in the classroom. Students have so much access to information through today's technology, so might as well embrace it. Teacher's can direct students on assignments, and given the information they need to use the technology to succeed. That's what teachers today need to learn to do. Teaching students to use technology in a positive manner, will only help them succeed in life.
